GROWTH AND FELLOWSHIP (1961
-1977)
In February of 1961, Rev. G.P. Chapman, Associate
Minister of the Prince of Peace Baptist Church, assumed
pastoral duties of the Third New Hope Baptist Church.
Rev. Chapman was a hard-working man who was devoted to
his church and his family. He was kind-hearted and "would
give you the shirt off his back". He and his wife,
Louise, had six children and they all dilligently worked
in auxiliaries of the church.
Under the leadership of Rev. Chapman,
the church continued to grow in membership and fellowship.
A youth choir, usher board, nurses guild, benevolent and
social outreach programs were established. The church
became registered with the Michigan Baptist District Association,
The Baptist, Missionary and Educational State Convention,
and the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. Rev. Chapman
was responsible for doing much of the interior and exterior
remodeling and the construction of a baptismal pool.
