NEW BEGINNING (1956 - 1961)
"Upon this rock I will
build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail
against it."
With this foundation
and Jesus Christ himself being the Cheif cornerstone,
Deacon John Cunningham called together the scattered flock
of the Cosmopolitan Baptist Church to his home at 20110
Cherrylawn in March 1956. It was at this assembly that
Deacon Cunningham shared the commission placed on his
heart by the Holy Spirit to establish an organized body
of believers to carry out the work of the Lord. This word
fell upon prepared hearts and they were all on one accord.
It was there that the foundation was laid and new hope
sprang forth.
This newly formed congregation decided
on the name "New Hope". This name was submitted
to the State Register only to find that the names New
Hope and Second New Hope had already been taken. They
did not become discouraged because they knew they would
be named "New Hope" - it was a symbol of their
new beginning.
